1. Identifying Your Flooring Needs
Your choice of industrial floor paint should be guided by specific factors like traffic levels, chemical exposure, slip resistance needs, and desired appearance.
2. Epoxy Floor Paints: The Gold Standard in Durability
For those seeking the pinnacle of floor protection and are willing to invest in thorough preparation, epoxy paints are unmatched. Known for their exceptional durability and resistance to chemicals, oils, and abrasions, epoxy coatings create a robust, seamless finish. Though the preparation process for epoxy paints is more involved, the resulting longevity and resilience make it a worthwhile investment for high-traffic and demanding industrial environments.

3. Polyurethane Floor Paints: Economical Yet Effective
As a more cost-effective alternative to epoxy, polyurethane paints offer a balance of affordability and performance. Easier to apply and still providing good resistance to physical impacts and temperature variations, polyurethane is a pragmatic choice for areas that do not face the extreme conditions suited to epoxy. While it may not match the formidable strength of epoxy, it still ensures a durable and visually appealing finish.

5. Tailoring Your Choice to the Environment
Epoxy is the go-to option for the ultimate floor protection, particularly in heavy-duty industrial settings. However, for areas where a balance of cost and performance is needed, polyurethane emerges as an effective alternative. The choice between these two, or considering water-based alkyd and acrylic options, hinges on the specific requirements of your floor space.
6. Application and Ongoing Care
Independent of the paint chosen, proper application and maintenance are key. It's essential to prepare the surface meticulously, especially for epoxy coatings, and adhere to the manufacturer’s guidelines to ensure optimal results.
Conclusion:
In industrial settings, floor paints are more than just a cosmetic choice; they're an investment in the longevity and functionality of your space. Epoxy stands out as the superior choice for those ready to undertake the necessary prep work, offering unmatched durability. ]]>Epoxy Floor Paint is one of the hardest wearing floor paints on the market, designed to give a perfect finish with durability to last for years and easy DIY application. Some people believe it is a hard process if you are doing this yourself, follow this guide and you will have a glossy hard wearing floor in a few easy steps.
Surface Preparation
Before you start painting it is vital that the surface has been thoroughly cleaned and has been left to dry. holes and cracks should suitably be repaired before painting, the smoothness of your finish will be dictated on the smoothness of your starting surface. Better preparation will give you better results. We recommend that the surface has a temperature between 5 degrees Celsius and 25 degrees Celsius. Too cold on your coating may not allow to cure correctly, too warm and this may make the paint cure to quickly for you to work with.
We do advise the floor is either ground or scarified prior to application to ensure good adhesion, this can be accomplished by hiring a floor grinder from your local tool hire shop.
Product Preparation
Start by setting the products out on a mixing area, you should protect this area with disposable plastic sheeting or cardboard. Everest Trade Epoxy Floor Paint is a 2 part product so make sure you pair together your part A's and part B's.
Once the activator has been added to your epoxy your unit will have a limited pot life of 30 minutes, so it is recommend that you mix one unit at a time to allow enough time to apply the first unit. Mixing should be done with a electric powered drill with a metal paddle mixer. if you do not have a paddle mixer we offer these on our website designed for use on epoxy https://premiumpaints.co.uk/collections/application-tools-1/products/prodec-24-drill-fit-paint-and-sealer-stirrer.
Open the part A and mix this thoroughly for 1-2 minutes, then add the part B and continue to mix for a further 1-2 minutes making sure both parts are thoroughly mixed. Once this has been mixed you should apply this straight away to the prepared surface.
Applying The Product
Firstly we recommend applying the paint to the outside areas with a paintbrush as this makes things much easier going forward. If painting a large area we advise that you mark out an area using masking tape that 1 unit will cover. A 5kg unit will cover between 17-20 square meters. Mix each unit using the same mixing process and decant the mixture into a paint scuttle or tray. We recommend that this is applied with a heavy duty roller kit which we also offer on our website https://premiumpaints.co.uk/collections/rollers-and-roller-sets. Begin applying the paint to your floor ensuring a thin even layer to give a even layer throughout the surface. Dependent on the porosity of your surface the first coat your first coat make look a little patchy, Don't worry this will be addressed once the second coat has been applied. If you've used masking tape remember to carefully remove before the coating has cured. Once the surface has been fully coated allow the paint to fully cure, this usually takes 12 hours when applied at 20 degrees Celsius. once the paint is touch dry you can start applying the second coat using the same method as the first coat. Its important the second coat is applied withing 24 hours of the first coat. Again once the second coat has been applied allow this to cure for a further 12-16 hours, after this time you will be able to walk on the floor and refill the contents of the area painted. We recommend 48 hours before parking vehicles on the surface. Water and other liquids should not be introduced onto the newly laid coating for 7 days after which a full chemical cure will have been achieved. Your surface will now be complete with a smooth and glossy finish that will last for years to come. Sealing block paving is a straight forward job – and with the right materials, it’ll keep your driveway or patio looking fantastic for years to come. With a bit of regular maintenance, sealing protects your paved areas from the elements as well as preventing weed growth, making sure your paved areas stays looking as good as new.
We have detailed the cleaning and application process below, this is for both new and existing block paving, please ensure new block paving has been down at lead 28 days prior to application of a sealer to ensure no efflorescence forms.
We have linked the products we recommend for the job in the guide below, other products can be used, but these products have been tried and tested by ourselves and are the best products for the job in our opinion. The first step is always to clean your driveway. Good preparation is key to a long-lasting, well-performing sealer coating.
STEP 1a: Mould, Algae and Lichen Removal (If Applicable)
A pressure washer will often suffice for relatively clean surfaces, However for surfaces with a lot of mould, algae or lichen build up we highly recommend applying the Everest Trade Paints Ultimate Driveway Cleaner this is a very easy product to use that will kill any mould, lichens, and algae build up on the blocks.
Simply Dilute as instructed, then using a low-pressure water sprayer or watering can fitted with a rose, saturate the area and leave to dry. This product is a biocide and will kill the growths, while also preventing further regrowth.
STEP 1b: Removing Oil Stains (If applicable)
To remove tougher oil or grease stains we suggest Everest Trade Paints Oil Stain Remover. Pour the product on to the oil or grease stain, ensuring the stain is completely covered, don't over-apply the product, make sure the stain is covered with a thin coat. Simply leave until totally dry (minimum 3-4 hours). Cold or humid conditions will slow drying times. Once dried, the area should be swept with a stiff broom to remove the dried product. Hose down the treated area to ensure all powder residue is completely removed.
STEP 1c: Pressure washing the surface.
This step isn't optional and should be done if you've used either of the above products or not.
Pressure wash the surface to remove any contaminants, we also recommend pressure washing the joints LIGHTLY to remove a little of the old sand to allow room for the new sand you will add later.
Whichever method of cleaning you should choose, remember to allow your driveway to completely dry.The drying times and coverage information below is based on our recommended Block Paving Sealer: Everest Trade - Block Paving Sealer - High-Performance - Premium Polyurethane Sealer, This is a highly durable, long-lasting block paving sealer that's perfect for domestic, commercial and industrial surfaces.
Before you begin sealing the area, ensure that rain is not anticipated for at least 24 hours to allow sealer to dry.
Block paving sealers can be applied by sprayers, rollers or brushes. Sprayers will provide the best results as it is less likely that the Block Paving Sealer will interfere with the sanded joints. Brushes and rollers are fine for application, but take care when sealing over joints for best results.
RECOMMENDED APPLICATION TOOLS
Roll on the first coat of Block Paving Sealer, ensure that it’s applied thoroughly between the joints. When there is sufficient coverage, the colour of the jointing sand turns darker. You’ll typically cover about 5m² per litre of sealer for the first coat. If you put more than this down, the mix may be too thick to begin the sealing process. Put down less and you won’t get full coverage. Leave to dry for 3-4 hours, depending on the weather.
Once the first coat is touch dry and no longer tacky to the touch you can begin to apply the second coat. The second coat can be applied the same way but will cover more area as the surface is less porous covering approximately 7m² per litre. Allow the area to dry for at least 24 hours to allow the sealant to fully take effect. In summer leave several hours before walking on it, or a day before driving on the surface. In winter, ensure you keep the area free from traffic for even longer. That's it! That's all it takes to seal your driveway or patio from weather damage, fading, biological growths and general wear and tear for years to come.

Why is exterior masonry paint important?
As the property exterior is the first thing visitors or potential buyers will notice about your home, good presentation is vital, helping to set the standard for the rest of the house.
One of the great things about today’s masonry paints is that they’re available in a huge variety of colours to suit any style of property – from traditional cottages to ultra-modern homes. You can even consider one-off feature walls that add a splash of personality to your home.
In many cases, your choice of finish will be totally down to your preference.
One of the best ways to check which colour is best for your project is to try a tester pot. Use these to paint a piece of card, then hold it up to the external wall in different light conditions so you can see what the paint will look like at different times of the day. Try it out in various areas to show the colour in shaded parts of your property, too.
Which masonry paint should I choose? Smooth or Textured?
With the right paint, you can protect your property and keep it looking good for longer. Today’s versions offer easy application so anyone can achieve smooth, even coverage.
When selecting your paint, look for products that are durable, dirt resistant and waterproof.
We stock both smooth and textured masonry paints at premium paints. We only supply durable, premium masonry paints.
There are two main types of masonry paint to choose from. If specified and applied correctly, both will last many years (some even come with a 5-15 year guarantee).
If you’re painting a large surface area, then a ‘Smooth’ version is likely to be your best option as it tends to be more economical for larger areas as good quality textured masonry paints tend to be slightly more expensive per litre. As the name suggests, smooth masonry paint willl have a smooth, creamy consistency that makes it quick and easy to apply and can be sprayed if required.
The alternative is ‘Fine Textured’ masonry paint, which is great when extra durability is required for areas that are exposed to harsh elements. Its formulation is also ideal for covering fine cracks in existing surfaces so if the surface is slightly "rough", it's probably a better option to go for this type.
What surfaces can I use masonry paint on?
Masonry paints are suitable for covering most types of facings, such as brick and render (including roughcast or pebbledash surfaces), as well as concrete, building blocks and existing emulsion or masonry painted surfaces.
You’ll usually need two coats of your new paint to ensure a nice, even coverage that will give an attractive, durable finish.
]]>If your floor is stained with oil, grease, and rust, you can easily give it new lease of life with a coat of concrete floor paint.
Concrete floor paints are available in both solvent-based (Polyurethane) and water-based (Alkyd and Acrylic) forms, both paint types are formulated to resist stains and resist wear, the polyurethane floor paints tend to provide much better wear restiance and are usually used in industrial environments such as factories, large industrial units and distribution centers, the acrylic and alkyd variants are less durable, however the Alkyd type is much more durable compared to acrylic and can be used in industrial environments too. Acrylic and alkyd floor paints dry to a satin finish, while polyurethanes tend to be gloss finish.
Water-based concrete floor pains are relatively inexpensive and easy to apply and are the common choice for most people who plan to apply the paint to domestic or low traffic areas. Though garage floor paint is available in a variety of colours, you might want to choose a light colour if you use the garage as a workshop. A light gray, for example, will reflect more light than a darker colour.
As with indoor water-based paints, concrete floor paint is applied with ordinary paintbrushes and rollers; as oppose to two-part epoxy floor paints, which require more expensive applications techniques. Paints that are made specifically for use on concrete floors should provide adequate slip resistance without additional additives. Water-based paints are more popular for domestic use as they can clean up with soap and water; whereas solvent-based paints require solvents (White Spirits) for clean up.
Preparation Is Key
Painting a concrete garage floor may require more detailed preparation than most indoor painting, as it is very important to clean the concrete thoroughly and repair any damage before you paint. Oil and grease stains will interfere with the paint's ability to bond with the concrete, and may bleed through the finish.
Whatever type of paint you choose, read the instructions carefully. Pay particular attention to surface preparation and temperature suggestions, our floor paints have a minimum application temperature of 5°C. Most garage floor paint jobs that fail do so because the surface was incorrectly prepared or the surface temperature was too low to allow for a good bond. High humidity can also negatively affect the durability of the paint job.
Cleaning the Garage Floor
Clean the garage floor using a broom and vacuum to thoroughly clean debris from the floor. Remove grease with a degreaser and stiff brush. Rinse the degreaser and allow the floor to dry. Heavy stains may require a pressure washer.
Etch or Acid Wash the Garage Floor.
Garage floor paint adheres best if the surface of the concrete has a slightly roughened texture—like that of fine sandpaper. Garage floors that have been troweled to a smooth surface will need to be roughened to create a suitable texture for painting. This can be done with an etching product or muriatic acid (always follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully). You may need to etch or wash the surface twice to achieve the proper texture. Rinse the concrete thoroughly to remove any traces of chemicals, and allow it to dry completely before moving on to painting.
Alternatively, it is also possible to etch a smooth concrete surface by using a power grinder or sander rather than using chemicals. This is also a necessary step if you are painting over old paint. Make sure to vacuum and damp-mop the sanded surface thoroughly to remove dust before painting it.
Applying Garage Floor Paint
Before Thinning applying the first coat, work out whether you need to apply a primer/sealer first.
You will normally need to apply this if the floor hasn't been painted before or if the floor has bare concrete exposed.
Floor primers and sealers are used to ensure the paint fully adheres to the concrete, minimising any chance of peeling or flaking, which occured when the paint doesn't fully bond with the concrete. The primer/sealer soaks deeper into the concrete, acting as an anchor for the floor paint to adhere to.
After you've applied 1 coat of the floor primer/sealer and you've allowed it to fully dry, you can move on to the floor paint.
It is best to use a paintbrush as brushing works better than a roller for working the paint into the surface, however, if it's a large area, medium pile rollers will work great too. Thoroughly brush on a complete but thin coat of paint, then allow it to dry thoroughly.
The second coat of paint can be applied full strength, we still recommend applying this in a roller out coat to ensure the paint dries hard and quick, apply using either a brush or a roller. In some instances, a third coat might be necessary, especially if the concrete is heavily textured. Clean up tools with soap and water.
Water-based floor paint dries to the touch in a matter of hours, but it is best to let it dry at least a full day before walking on it.

]]>Painting is the nation's number-one home-improvement project. It can help you change the look of a room from dull to brand new. Here's an interior-painting primer, starting with the pros and cons of oil-based and water-based paints.
Oil-based paint is more durable, but it takes longer to dry, and cleanup requires turpentine or paint thinner (White spirits). Oil-based paints are made with either alkyd (synthetic) or linseed (natural) oils. Alkyd paint is more common because it is less expensive and tougher. Oil-based paint is good for trim work because trim takes more abuse over time than do walls.
Water-based paint is easier to work with and dries more quickly, but it isn't quite as durable as oil-based paint. Water-based is good for general painting projects such as walls and ceilings.
Paint comes in a number of different finishes, from flat to high gloss. Some paints also contain enamel, an additive that makes the dried surface harder and less porous.
If you're working on unfinished walls, be sure to apply a coat of primer before you begin painting. Use water-based primer if you plan to use a water-based paint. Oil-based and Oxide primer works well with oil-based paints.
